End Of An Era

At the end of July the Frontier nightclub in Batley will close it’s doors for the last time, and bring the final curtain down on an iconic entertainment venue.

The nightclub began life as the Batley Variety club, which opened it’s doors in 1967 and rapidly became one of the most popular music venues in the north of England. Run for many years by it’s founder James Corrigan the club attracted the biggest names in show business from all over the world. Shirley Bassey, Sir Tom Jones, the Beegees and Roy Orbison were among the big name stars who graced the stage.

Latterly the club enjoyed a change of style, transforming into the Frontier nightclub and was for many years the main venue on Batley’s golden mile of pubs and clubs. With packed dance floors every weekend.

Unfortunately the club has not enjoyed as much success in recent years ultimately leading to the decision to close. “It is, without question, a very sad time and we are truly sorry to be losing such an icon” said Nick Westwell the club’s general manager.

A special event is planned for 30 July to celebrate the clubs history.
