Silicosis Cases

Brearleys have experts to deal with a wide range of personal injury cases including Silicosis which is known as an industrial disease.

Silicosis used to be most prevalent amongst Stonemasons and Stone Workers from many years ago, who would breathe in silica dust from the stone that they were working with when they had not been provided with sufficient personal protective equipment such as adequate face masks.

Over time the silica dust that has been breathed in can cause lung inflammation that leads to the formation of scarring in the lungs called pulmonary fibrosis, but unfortunately lung tissue that is scarred in this way does not function properly anymore and the symptoms for lung damage continue to get worse even when these workers are no longer exposed to silica dust.

The main symptoms of Silicosis are a persistent cough, persistent shortness of breath, weakness and tiredness and unfortunately the condition can ultimately be fatal if the lungs stop working properly or serious complications develop.

Silicosis can also increase the risk of getting other serious and potentially life threatening conditions.

Unfortunately, it appears that a rising number of workers in Britain are getting Silicosis from working with replica marble and granite which has been termed as “Artificial Stone Silicosis” which appears to be caused by kitchen worktop workers cutting kitchen worktops that contain silica dust and not being provided with the appropriate safety equipment such as adequate face masks.
