Placement Orders And Adoption
A Placement Order is a Court order that gives a Local Authority permission to place a child for adoption with prospective adopters that have passed all the checks and are a suitable match for the child. It does not mean that the child has been adopted, but rather that the Local Authority can start to make plans for the child to be adopted.
A Placement Order is one of the options available for the Local Authority to apply for in Care proceedings. A Local Authority will apply for a Placement Order when they believe that a child needs to be adopted as there are no other options and the child is at risk of significant harm.
Due to the serious nature of the Placement Order and the effect it will have on the child and their birth family, this is not a decision any Judge will take lightly. There are different factors the Court has to consider when deciding if adoption is the best option for the child throughout their life.
