Public Law Outline Process (Or Plo)
The Public Law Outline (or PLO) process takes place when a Local Authority is concerned about your child’s wellbeing and unless positive steps are taken to address and reduce those concerns, then the Local Authority may consider starting Court proceedings. The PLO process is therefore the last chance for you to make changes and improvements before Care proceedings are started. It is therefore a very serious process, and we understand it is also a scary process, and we are here to help you.
If the Local Authority wishes to start the PLO process, you will receive what is called a “letter before proceedings”, which sets out the main concerns the Local Authority have about your child, and you will be invited to a PLO meeting (the letter will set out the date and time of the meeting).
If you receive a letter inviting you to a PLO meeting it is vital that you contact us straightaway. If you are a parent or a person with parental responsibility for a child, you will automatically be entitled to Legal Aid. This means that you are entitled to have free legal advice, and your solicitor can attend the meeting with you.
