Special Guardianship Orders
A Special Guardianship Order is a Court Order that places a child in the long-term care of someone who is not their parent. This person will become their Special Guardian and will have parental responsibility which they can exercise over and above the child’s parents. Essentially the child’s Special Guardian can have the final say in important decisions for the child.
A Special Guardianship Order can be made in Care proceedings, but it can also be applied for as a standalone order. As a Special Guardian you may be eligible for financial support and other services from the Local Authority.
There are certain criteria that you must satisfy if you wish to apply for a Special Guardianship Order and you may be eligible for Legal Aid to advise and represent you through this process. Please contact us to discuss this further on 01924 927187 or by email: [email protected] or [email protected]
